Recognition to Outstanding Students

The Madison Metropolitan Chapter of The Links Inc. will sponsor its annual Student Recognition Program Sunday, May 21, at East High School, 2222 E. Washington Ave.

A brief reception will start at 2 p.m., and the program will begin at 2:30. The Links, a public service organization that has been a part of the Madison community for 20 years, proudly recognizes the academic achievement of students of African American descent each year at this event.

This year, Madison Metropolitan School District Superintendent Art Rainwater will make remarks, and several principals will participate in the recognition of their students and those from other schools.

Students from elementary through high school have been nominated by their teachers to receive The Links awards certificates or savings bonds. High school seniors bound for college were eligible to apply for The Links scholarship. A highlight of the program will be the presentation of the scholarship recipients, who will each receive an award of $1,000. Scholarship funds are derived from the proceeds of the Ebony Fashion Fair, which has been sponsored by The Links each December.
