  •  Wisconsin Women of Color Network

Join the WWOCN for their annual scholarship fund-raising brunch and general membership meeting, featuring music from the WWOCN choir, a silent auction, and a holiday-shopping spree with women- and minority-owned businesses. $25/person, $20/student.   • Grassroots Leadership College meeting

An informational meeting for the Grassroots Leadership College will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, 6:30 p.m. at the Catholic Multicultural Center, 1862 Beld St.

This meeting is for all people interested in building their skills in neighborhood and community leadership through joining the spring semester as developing leaders or coaches. Childcare will be available. For more information, call 441-0085.

  • Madtown Secular Recovery

Madtown Secular Recovery, a nonreligious support group for people recovering from alcohol or drug dependencies, will be held Sunday, Nov. 28, 7 p.m.  at the Wil-Mar Center, 953 Jenifer St. A support group for people recovering from alcohol and drug dependency, this venue is nonreligious and emphasizes total abstinence through self-empowerment.   • Senior life changes

Elaine Beaubien, businessperson and romance author, will present “You Can Have Your Cake And Eat It Too … Just Not At The Same Time,” based on her experience reinventing herself after age 50, on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 12:30 p.m. at the Madison Senior Center, 330 W.   • Minority Clerkship Program seeks employers

The Minority Clerkship Program helps law students expand their educational opportunities while also aiding employers’ diversity efforts. After a rigorous application, interview, and selection process, participating employers agree to hire a student for summer employment on the same terms as other first-year summer associates, providing the same salary, work experience, and social opportunities.   • Business training for government contracts

Madison Area Technical College will help local businesses learn how to effectively compete for contracts to sell their products and services to the federal government at four training seminars to be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8.  The training sessions will be conducted at MATC’s Business Procurement Assistance Center (BPAC) in the TEC Business Center, 3591 Anderson St.  A $20 fee for each seminar will cover the cost of materials.  For details on each of the four seminars and to complete the required registration, visit        matcmadison.edu/bpac/   home.htm, or call the BPAC, 243-4490.

  • Humanities Forum

Andrew Wolpert, associate professor of classics and history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, discusses what it means for the United States to be the world’s only remaining superpower by drawing parallels to classical Greece.   • Thankgiving meal

Good Shepard Lutheran Church, 5701 Raymond Road, will host their annual Thanksgiving meal Thursday, Nov. 25, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The traditional dinner will include turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, cranberries and pumpkin pie. Free. Everyone is invited to join the community gathering.
