World Premiere of “Real Neighborhood” To Open At Orpheum Theater Neighborhood House and WYOU Community Television proudly present one of the most anticipated films of the year, “The Real Neighborhood,” a story of seven young people who come to live in Madison’s very own Neighborhood House and the hijinks that ensue upon their arrival. “The Real Neighborhood” will have its world premiere at the Orpheum Theater, 216 State St., on Saturday, Nov. 13, noon, and its television premiere on WYOU Channel 4 in December. This free event will be Madison’s only opportunity to meet the writer, directors, camera operators, and actors of “The Real Neighborhood,” also of whom are participants in Neighborhood House’s after-school program. First-time directors Max Heidt, 10 and Devonna Jackson, 12, will serve as emcees for the hour-long event, which will include the screening of the film and a discussion with the cast and crew. This project was funded in part through a Dane County Youth Prevention Grant, with support from the Orpheum Theater and Campus Copies. Youths led the project from its inception, with guidance and supervision from staff, discussing project ideas, assigning roles (director, writers, camera operators, actors, editors, and designers) and learning the basics of video production. Through this collaborative project, young people gained access to valuable audiovisual skills and equipment. They also gained confidence in their creative expression and greater understanding of cultural, gender, and socioeconomic differences.
