MADISON —Ten adult volunteers who have devoted countless hours to Girl Scouting were honored recently at the annual meeting of the Girl Scouts of Black Hawk Council. They are among the 2,300 adults who work with 9,000 girls in nine counties of south central Wisconsin. The Appreciation Pin recognizes an adult who has provided outstanding service to at least one Girl Scout community or one program audience in Girl Scouting. Receiving the Appreciation Pin were: Colleen Lourigan, Oregon; Jenny Massey, Madison; Denise Peltier, Madison; Kim Racchini, Fitchburg; and Monica Swenson, Brooklyn. Dorothy Vesperman of Madison was presented with the Honor Pin for her delivery of outstanding service to two or more geographic or program delivery areas. The Thanks Badge recognizes an adult member whose performance is truly remarkable and is of benefit to the entire council. Two individuals received the Thanks Badge: Karen Camilleri of Portage and Shirley Matthews of Beaver Dam. Charlene Gray of Portage was recognized for being involved in Girl Scouting for 35 years. Gail Johnson of Reedsburg was presented with the prestigious Jill Simon Award, presented annually to a single leader who exemplifies the attributes of the late Ms. Simon, who was instrumental in establishing Girl Scouting in the Barneveld area and was killed in the 1984 tornado that decimated the community. Girl Scouts is committed to helping girls build skills and assets that lead to success as happy, productive adults. These assets include strong values, leadership, social conscience, self-esteem, sound decision-making and relating to others with understanding and respect. — Black Hawk Council
