Asian Moon Festival: Traditions that come alive The Wisconsin Organization for Asian Americans-Milwaukee presented the annual Asian Moon Festival June 11-13 at the Henry Maier Festival Park, with no less than seven stages and areas that provided wholesome entertainment and activities for all Wisconsinites. There were ethnic dances, songs, and musical presentations from China, Korea, Thailand, India, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Japan, Laos/Cambodia, and Polynesia. The featured entertainers were internationally renowned jazz pianist Hiromi and Karma Sutra. Other activities included a fashion show, martial arts, cooking demonstrations, bingo games, floral demonstration, chess, throat singing workshop, acupuncture, and many more. The marketplace was full of arts and crafts for sale, plus restaurants that featured Asian cuisine. “Putting this celebration together is a labor of love, made possible by volunteers of every background as well as strong corporate partnerships,” said the WOAA-Milwaukee members led by Sherman C. Jen. —Heidi M. Pascual
