  • Fund-raising raffle

The South Madison Coalition of the Elderly is holding its annual fund-raising raffle. Prizes will include appliances, watches, phones, cash, and more. To support the coalition, stop by the office at 540 W. Olin Ave. or call Betsy, 251-8405.

  • Socialist Picnic

The annual picnic of the Socialist Party of Wisconsin will take place Saturday, July 31, noon-6 p.m. at the Tenney Park Shelter, 1440 E. Johnson St.  Annual Unity picnic is a potluck.   • Dane Dances

The fifth annual Dane Dances will begin Friday, Aug. 6. Every Friday in August, 5:30-9:30 p.m., Dane Dances will bring people of diverse backgrounds together for a night of free entertainment and dancing.

  • African Christian gospel concert

An African Christian gospel concert will be given by Charles Onwochei, Christian music minister and professor of Christian Religious Studies at the University of Jos, Nigeria, Saturday, July 31, 5-8:30 p.m. at the House of Prayer, 1732 Eagan Rd.   • Full Moon Night Hike

  • Bike It, Hike It, Like It

The Girl Scouts of Black Hawk Council and Williamson Bicycle Works of Madison will host "Bike It, Hike It, Like It" Sunday, Aug. 1, at Mounds View Park outside Blue Mounds State Park, Blue Mounds, Wis.  From 1:30-3:30 p.m, this family event features biking, hiking, games and songs. $15 for two; $5 for each additional participant.   • Streetball & Block Party

Johnny Winston, Jr.’s Streetball & Block Party will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at Penn Park (corner of Fisher & Buick streets). Activities will include an adult men’s basketball tournament, music, entertainment, food, running races, fire trucks, and free bingo sponsored by DeJope Bingo.   • Eyes to the Skies Balloon Festival

The second annual Madison Eyes to the Skies Ballon Festival will be held Thursday-Sunday, Aug. 12-15, on Willow Island at the Alliant Energy Center.   • Lesbian Night Out  

Lesbian Night Out —Trivia & Game Night will be held Friday, July 30, 8 p.m. at OutReach, 600 Williamson St. (in the Gateway Mall). Come play a couple of games and enjoy some  easy conversation. Tickets for Madison Mallards baseball games have been selling quickly, so if you are planning to attend the Aug. 4 game against the Mankato Moon Dogs, purchase your $5 tickets in advance from HospiceCare, and the Mallards will donate $2.50 back to help support patient and family services.   • Sugar Maple Music Festival

The first annual Sugar Maple Traditional Music Festival will take place Friday, Aug. 6, 7-11 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 7, noon to dusk. Bluegrass, cajun, blues, and alt-country will be abound at the foot-stompin' event, which will take place at the Lussier Heritage Center, 3101 Lake Farm Rd.   • 1st Huitlacoche Festival

The first Huitlacoche (weet-la-koh-che) Festival will be celebrated Sunday, Aug. 1, noon-3 p.m. at the Mercado Marimar, 2102 S. Park St., next to the Villager Mall. This fund-raising event is open to the public, and all net proceeds will be donated to the Henry Vilas Park Zoological Society to support the free zoo. Tickets are $10.
