Madison Links Installation

A foundation of service

by Jonathan Gramling

Since 1985, the Madison Metropolitan Links have been initiating service projects in the African American community to promote the Arts, health and wellness, and African American student achievement. In the past, they have sponsored receptions and performances of African American classical artists with the Madison Symphony Orchestra, conducted an annual health walk around Monona Bay, and have recognized the academic achievement of students at its annual reception each May. Its major fund-raiser, the Ebony Fashion Fair, attracts hundreds to the Alliant Energy Center for an evening of fashion and fun. This is a lot of work for so few hands.

On June 5, The Madison Metropolitan Links increased their number by seven when they held an installation ceremony at the Marriott West Hotel.  Brenda Armstrong, Jacalyn Grant, Angela Green, Frances Huntley-Cooper, Sheila Milton, Pamela Pfeffer, and Karla Walker were inducted.

On hand to witness the installation were the Connecting Links (spouses of the members) and the current Links membership comprised of Gwen Jones, president, Roxanne Allison, Melanie Bolden, Yvonne Bowen, Susan Canty, Diane Crear, Charlestine Daniel, Joyce Dismuke, Janet Dyer, Chris Hodge, Janice Hughes, Viola Miller, Regina Prude, Carolyn Pugh, Velma Ritcherson, Jackie Rodman, Debra Thomas, Vicki Washington, and Cynthina Whitmore.

The best is yet to come!
